What metadata does a HEIC file contain?
A HEIC photo taken on an iPhone typically embeds EXIF data (camera model, lens, exposure settings, capture date/time) and, if Location Services was enabled for the Camera app, GPS coordinates. Apple devices may also record orientation and color profile information.
Why HEIC needs its own attention
Many older or JPEG-only metadata tools do not read or write HEIC/HEIF metadata correctly, because the format uses a different container structure (based on ISO/IEC HEIF) than JPEG. A metadata tool needs explicit HEIC support rather than assuming JPEG-style parsing will work.
Removing metadata from HEIC
When our processing engine (exiftool) is available on the server, metadata fields are stripped from a copy of the file, which is then offered for download. If the engine is unavailable for a given file, we say so clearly rather than claiming a removal that did not happen.
